It's Medicare Open Enrollment Period Now!

Medicare beneficiaries - are you satisfied with your health plan choice for 2010? Not sure you've got the best plan for you? Depending on your situation, you may still have time to investigate alternatives and make a one time change.

While the Medicare Annual Election Period just ended on December 31. Medicare's Open Enrollment Period (OEP) has just begun on January 1, and runs through March 31. During the OEP, Medicare allows for one change to a "like" plan. So if you're on one Medicare Advantage (HMO) plan and want to switch to either a different benefit plan with the same carrier or to an all together different insurance carrier, you may do so; but only one time during the OEP.

Once April 1 rolls around, you will be in locked into (with few exceptions) your plan
and carrier choice for the rest of the year.

Please remember Bristol Park Medical Group physicians accept the following
Medicare Advantage HMO Plans.

Bristol Park also takes traditional Medicare and all Medicare Supplemental policies (also known as Medi-Gap policies).

Bristol Park Medical Group Pediatrician
to Run Boston Marathon In Memory of Mother

When Dr. Trung Truong, a pediatrician at our San Juan office runs the Boston Marathon next April 19, he'll be running in memory of his mother, who died from leukemia when he was only 11 years old.

Dr. Truong explains he did not originally set out to run
the Boston Marathon. "A friend from medical school called
and asked me to run with him. However the Marathon committee limits entries and with a few half marathons
and only one full marathon to my credit, I did not have
the required qualifying race times. I was not sure I really wanted to run anyway, until I found the inspiration to participate: my mom."

"Losing my mom to leukemia at a young age really affected my life. I am excited for the opportunity to run the marathon through my pledge to raise money for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. They are a world-renown cancer center affiliated with Harvard Medical School and they do wonderful innovative work in cancer treatment and research that reaches across the country and around the world. Along with the memory of my mom, I will be running for all those children who have suffered and succumbed to different cancers; something children and their families should never have to endure."

What started out on the whim of a friend has now turned into a dedicated effort to helping those affected by cancer. By accepting the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge invitation, Dr. Truong pledged the required minimum of $3,250.00, but has set his aim higher. "My personal goal is to raise between $10,000 and $14,000;" explained Truong. "Anyone who would like to contribute to this worthy cause, can donate directly through my personal page on the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge website link: www.rundfmc.org/2010/trung.

Dr. Truong, a two-time Physician of Excellence honoree by the Orange County Medical Association, says he is up to the challenge and enthusiastic despite the rigorous training schedule. "Running the Boston Marathon will be a life-changing experience that will be made even sweeter by knowing that my small contribution is going to help continue the great work that Dana-Farber does for people of all ages with cancer."

other Bristol Park repeat recipients.

The Orange County Medical Association (OCMA) has published their annual list of Physicians of Excellence honorees in the just released January issue of Orange Coast Magazine. Again this year, Bristol Park Medical Group is pleased to announce it
has six honorees on the list.

community are from left to right:

Dung Trinh, MD, Internal & Geriatric Medicine, Mission Viejo office;
David Kim, MD, Family Medicine, Costa Mesa office;

Back in 2005, Orange Coast Magazine in partnership with the Orange County Medical Association, the largest physician membership organization in the county representing over 2,500 doctors, developed the Physicians of Excellence program. This annual program aims to honor the region's many outstanding physicians.

Congratulations all!

Bristol Park Salutes its Very
Own "Super Doctors"

This year Bristol Park again has two physicians included in the 2010 edition of Southern California Super Doctors as seen in the January issue of Los Angeles Magazine.

Along with his many other honors,
Dr. Michael Ozaki, Pediatrician in our Fountain Valley office, is being included in the new listing. Dr. Ozaki is also an Associate Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at UCI Medical School.

Joining him is Dr. Marnie Baker, Pediatrician in our Irvine office. Outside of work,
Dr. Baker is a tireless advocate for organ donation.

According to the publisher, the list is comprised of the top 5% of doctors in Los Angeles and Orange counties as determined through "peer nominations, a blue ribbon panel review process, and independent research on candidates."

The previous year's Bristol Park "Super Doc" was Dr. James Ashizawa, Family Medicine, San Juan Capistrano.

Congratulations Dr. Ozaki and Dr. Baker. Your adoring patients knew you were
"Super" long before Los Angeles Magazine did.
